It's freezing and the group travels on a train. Elie’s dad looksdead ,but Elie was able to get him to show signs of life. The grave diggers left him alone. However 20 people were thrown off the train and left. The train continued to travel until it reached it's destination.
It must have been a scary experience not only for Elie's dad ,but Elie also because it would've meant Elie's father's life. Yet it would have meant Elie's moral support and father would be gone and he would be left alone.
