On 4/10 Elie was still in camp and it seemed as if he was being ignored. Three days afterwards he become sick but it was nothing serious. He is alive today and was the lone survivor of his family.
He may have escaped the concentration camps, but i think the psychological damage that they had caused to him will last forever. Along with the social damage he suffered due to the death of his family. It is as if he will be forever in that camp in some part of his mind.
